Thanks, Dad

So my dad has to fill in sometimes as David's dad. Like taking David to school on "Donuts with Dad" day. And mowing the lawn with a David shadow. And putting together complicated new Bionicles. And taking David to Home Depot. And growing a garden with David. And removing David from sacrament meeting. You know, the typical dad stuff.

This past weekend my dad did the ultimate fill-in, and took David to the Fathers and Sons Annual Camp out. David roasted a hot dog, and left it for my dad to eat. Then David ran around with the other boys, avoided falling in the lake, did not avoid falling down onto some sharp rocks, and toughed it out long enough to watch the fireworks. (David's first fireworks! No, we've never stayed up late enough on the 4th of July.) They didn't spend the night--no one, myself most of all--was quite ready for that. But David had a great time! (And he was more than happy to come home and sleep in his own bed.)

Knowing I like to have pictures of things, my dad even snapped a few pictures. Proof of David's second Father and Sons camp out.

Then on Monday, my dad spent his precious day home from work at the Fort Worth Museum with me and my kids.

A favorite for us is always the round-up game. This is my dad and Mary astride their horses, trying to lead the herd into the corral.

Howdy, Mary!

Despite my dad's years of actual experience in Star Valley, Wyoming--it turns out David and Mary are the better cowboys! David got the highest score, with 20 cows successfully rounded up.

My dad didn't even read very many signs at the museum! He was happy to watch David play trains or help David make a short film.

Thanks, Dad! For everything.
