Saturday was THE social event of the season! Tio Dave's birthday party! David had been talking about it all week. Now, David gets excited about things--but I'd never seen him THIS excited about anything. (Those of you who know him, know that was a lot of excitement going on!)
Dave and Ale carefully planned the party for the kids. David believes all parties should be surprise parties, and they were happy to play along.
When we arrived, Dave was gone and the house was undecorated. Ale immediately put the kids to work getting ready for the big "surprise." First, they filled the Mickey Mouse pinata with candy.
Next, David directed the hanging of the streamers and "Happy Birthday" banner. Ale was so sweet and patient in letting David be totally in charge. They also prepared the table with Mickey Mouse napkins, plates, and a table cloth.
Finally, it was time for the big "surprise." Everyone jumped up from behind the couch and yelled, "Surprise!"
(I love that picture. David was so happy!)
Next we enjoyed a super yummy dinner. Ale had even cut out pieces of cheese in the shape of Mickey Mouse!
David had a great time playing with Tio. Especially after Tio opened his presents, which included a G.I. Joe attack plane and Special Ops boat, gifted by David and Mary. (David had wanted to buy Dave an Army uniform, but seeing as how Dave is a Marine, I didn't think he would need or want an Army uniform.)
[At some point Mary decided to climb up some brand spanking new shelves--new that very day and so new they hadn't been anchored yet. You can guess what happened--those shelves came crashing down. I think Mary the Monkey now knows not to climb furniture. The only injury she sustained was a bruise on her back. (Phew!!) Unfortunately, the shelf grazed David's head on the way down. It was just a scratch--but nothing like blood oozing out of your kid's head to make your heart stop. It turned out to be no big deal. What fun is a birthday party without some blood?]
**At this point the batteries in my camera died. Boo hoo.**
We all got a kick out of the trick candles on the homemade blizzard pie (yummy, Mom). Also, Ale had made cute mini cupcakes for the kids to decorate. They had a fabulous time!
To top it off, Tio sent the kids home with Mickey Mouse treat bags!
David has declared on multiple occasions that it was "the best birthday party ever!" It was pretty darn awesome. I'd had a crummy weekend, and I considered staying home and taking a nap. But I'm so glad I didn't! I wouldn't trade seeing the joy Tio's birthday brought to my kids for anything.
Happy Birthday, Dave!! We hope you had as much fun as we did!
