Last night after family home evening we made candy cornucopias. It was easy, fun, and festive.
What you need:
- Small candy (like leftover Halloween candy of the M&Ms, candy corn, or Skittles varieties)
- Full graham crackers
- Icing
- Sugar ice cream cones
What you do:
- Microwave the sugar cones until soft and you can bend the pointed end up like a cornucopia. (This is actually kind of tricky--more than 30 seconds in my microwave BURNT the cone.)
- Let the cones cool--they will become stiff again and stay in the cornucopia shape. (It only takes a few seconds for them to cool off.)
- Use icing to "glue" the cornucopia onto the graham cracker and to "glue" candy inside the cone and spilling out onto the graham cracker. (With my little kids, I did all the icing--and they placed the candy.)
A more healthful alternative: Use peanut butter or soy butter for the glue, and stuff the cornucopia with dried fruit pieces, raisins, and nuts. (As you can see, in our family we went for the candy version!)
(***Julia P. gets the credit for this idea, and kudos to Heidi S. for passing it onto me.)
